A Valentine's Day Greeting
On Having Eaten Cookies

A black mood drops,
an Oreo layer of regret.

If there's no sugar daddy, at least there's

Valentine's Day.
Off anti-depressants.
Feeling more like myself,
the fifteen-year-old, the one
looking at self v. universe, saying,
you're not beautiful, whatever the parents say. No man
will ever (this underlined an adolescent zillion number of times)
want you
ever. & she was right.

But cookies love you, want you, can't live without you,
with a svengali need to be obeyed.
Head down, I follow.
