Another Bush Flip Flop
ER Patients Won't Have to Tell Immigration Status:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Bush administration is backing off plans to require hospitals to ask emergency room patients their immigration status, after hospitals and advocates for immigrants protested.
But this is what they really want, regardless of what Bush is apparently now saying:
The House rejected legislation from Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., in May that would have explicitly required hospitals to determine immigration status, leading to deportation proceedings against people in the country illegally.
So very compassionate.
