Despicable Stunt
Do they think we're idiots? I caught a clip of the "debate" on the late news tonight and couldn't believe my eyes. The Republicans don't care about this country. They don't care about Iraq. They just want the Dems to fight each other instead of fighting them. They are playing with people's lives just to get reelected in the fall so they can feast on pork and more pork for themselves and their cronies. It makes me sick.

Democrats said it was a political stunt and quickly decided to vote against it in an attempt to drain it of significance. [ed. and it worked, too: was just defeated with vote of 403-3, which shows how clearly it was a stunt. Nancy, you are a gem.] "A disgrace," declared House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. "The rankest of politics and the absence of any sense of shame," added Rep. Steny Hoyer (news, bio, voting record) of Maryland, the No. 2 House Democrat.

Republicans hoped to place Democrats in an unappealing position — either supporting a withdrawal that critics said would be precipitous or opposing it and angering voters who want an end to the conflict. They also hoped the vote could restore GOP momentum on an issue — the war — that has seen plummeting public support in recent weeks.

I was going to blog about art tonight, but caught this instead. Will give preview of new group show at Noyes Art Center, called cleverly "Above the Noyes" (it's in the big gallery space on the second floor) curated by Sarah Krepp -- 25 artists! -- a little later. Dropping in on the installation that was going on all day was like watching a military maneuver, with charts and plans and weapons. This is going to be a very good show. I already have a bunch of pix I'll post later. The opening is this Sunday from 3-5 pm.

But am tired now so will go sleep.
