We Are the Champpsions
Well, it's the best I can do after 3 or perhaps more beers.
Our group of Kerry Travellers met tonight at Champps (the restaurant) for the Unaugural Dinner and Bush-Bash. Much catching up and rehashing of the election, but also the beginnings of plans for moving forward into the 2006 elections. Discussions about how we can make sure Rahm Emanuel "gets it", i.e., how to win, not just fund-raise.
The high point was our solemn shouting out of the People's Inaugural Oath that apparently Jan Schakowsky came up with on a napkin earlier today, but by this evening had been properly printed up, suitable for framing:
If you can't read it, it says:
I do solemnly swear that I (state your name) will faithfully execute the responsibilities and privileges of a patriotic American, and will to the best of my abilities work to move our democracy forward by preserving, not privatizing, Social Security, making affordable health care available to all Americans, increasing and protecting American jobs that pay living wages, seeking justice and fairness in our courts and in our tax system, ensuring the security of Americans at home, and working for peace and prosperity around the world.Just imagine if we had a president who could swear to this oath too! Baby steps, however. The new campaign season will be here before you know it.
