Now We Have to Work on the Agenda
From the Illinois Dem Network:
Thursday November 16 - 7:00pm
ILLINOIS SINGLE-PAYER HEALTH CARE COALITION
Physicians for a National Health Program, 29 E Madison St, Suite 602, Chicago, IL 60602
Group: Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP)

You are invited to the post-election launch of the Illinois Single-Payer Health Care Coalition on Thursday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the headquarters of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), at 29 E. Madison St., Suite 602, Chicago 60602. This group has formed in response to the need for a strong, progressive coalition to support a real system of universal health care in Illinois; a single- payer statewide health system to eliminate insurance industry waste and profit and provide comprehensive coverage to all. Dr. Robert McKersie of PNHP will make a brief presentation on a single-payer insurance system for Illinois, followed by a strategy discussion (see the agenda reprinted below). Several factors have encouraged us to convene a meeting of single-payer health insurance supporters now:

This summer, more than 170 Illinois doctors joined in introducing a single-payer universal health care plan for the state.

This single-payer plan was studied by the state's own consulting company, and received the most favorable score of any potential health reform.

Multiple state legislators have expressed interest in introducing single-payer legislation in the coming session.

At the national level, the U.S. National Health Insurance Act (HR 676) has been endorsed by hundreds of unions, church councils, citizen groups and candidates. It currently has 78 co-sponsors in Congress, more than any other reform.

We hope you'll join us to learn more about true progressive health reform for Illinois and help formulate the strategies to make it happen.

Light refreshments will be served.
As one who currently has no health insurance and has a sore throat, WE NEED SOMETHING LIKE THIS ASAP!
