Going Smoothly, Just Straight To Hell
Yahoo! News - 8 U.S. Soldiers Killed in Iraq Violence:
In a series of U.S. television interviews Tuesday, L. Paul Bremer, the top civilian administrator in Iraq, conceded not all was going smoothly as the coalition approached a June 30 handover of sovereignty to the Iraqis.
"We have problems [ed: having a zit on your nose is a problem], there's no hiding that. But basically Iraq is on track to realize the kind of Iraq that Iraqis want and Americans want, which is a democratic Iraq," Bremer said on ABC's 'Good Morning America.'
A Shia (majority) rule Iraq? Which is what a democratic Iraq would look like at this moment.

For some reason I keep thinking about the (actually, quite vile and violent) movie, "Red Dawn" (1984), in which we are asked to imagine that Russians have invaded America and it's up to a small band (including Patrick Swayze) of hunks to fight back. A quote from a review:
Red Dawn shows the frontline guerilla war tactics that it takes to win wars. The movie illustrates the power of surprise, dedication, and member loyalty within a group. No tyrant or standing army can ever match such a combination.
Now imagine you are an Iraqi. Is anyone even counting how many Iraqis Bush and Rummy and Cheney and Wolfy and Perle and the rest have slaughtered? How do these people sleep?

UPDATE: God, it gets worse:
12 Marines, 66 Iraqis Killed in Battles
